Hearing for suspect in cat killings set for Monday

The teenager accused of mutilating more than a dozen cats in South Miami-Dade was not the reserved yet rabid killer some expected. He was a dog-loving class clown, a swim class instructor, an 18-year-old who grew up before the eyes of the four-legged victims' families.

(CBS) A Florida teen was arrested and charged over the weekend in connection with the murder and mutilation of 19 cats in Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay. Tyler Weinman, 18, faces 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improper disposal of animal remains and four counts of burglary, reports CBS station WFOR-TV in Miami. Weinman is being held on $249,500 bail.

MIAMI - Accused Miami-Dade County cat killer Tyler Weinman is set to appear in bond court this afternoon. Weinman, 18, faces 19 counts of animal cruelty and related offenses in connection with a wave of cat killings in Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay. He sits in jail today, with bail set at $154,500.

Miami-area cat owners can breathe a sigh of relief following the arrest of an 18-year-old who police say mutilated and killed nearly three dozen cats. Tyler Weinman was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, four counts of burglary and 19 counts of improper disposing of an animal body, according to ABC affiliate WPLG. Neighbors and police have said the cats were beaten, skinned or sliced open.
